Lawyer Cristián Schmitt Magasich graduated in 1983 from the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Valparaíso, receiving the "Enrique Wiegand Frödden" Award for the best student of his class.

He worked as a lawyer at Estudio Magasich y Cía., in the corporate advisory area and at the same time in the Prosecutor's Office of the then Empresa de Obras Sanitarias de la Quinta Región, today Esval SA

In 1987 he moved to Santiago, joining Estudio Caviedes, Fernández, Gómez y Puig, advising various companies in the corporate area. Between 1993 and 1997, he worked in the Legal Department of the Irrigation Directorate of the Ministry of Public Works, currently the Hydraulic Works Directorate, to later dedicate himself to the free exercise of the profession in the field of water law, advising engineering consulting companies, farmers and private clients of various kinds, giving seminars on this specialty. In February 2004, he joined a reputable Law Firm in the city of Santiago, contributing his specialty in water law. As of January 2008, Amat, Ruiz-Tagle & Cía.
